ARTS - (Certification & 3-Year Recertification Requirement)
The ARTS Code of Professional Conduct establishes the standards expected of all ARTS-certified individuals. Certification through ARTS signifies a commitment to uphold the highest level of safety, integrity, and professionalism within the ammonia refrigeration industry.
By obtaining or renewing an ARTS certification, you agree to operate in accordance with these standards and continuously demonstrate competence, accountability, and leadership in your role.
Certified individuals shall meet the following expectations:
1. Commitment to Safety Above All
I recognize that ammonia refrigeration presents inherent risks and that protecting human life, the public, and the environment is my highest responsibility. I will operate, maintain, and interact with refrigeration systems in a manner that prioritizes safety at all times.
2. Operate Within My Level of Competence
I will only perform tasks and make decisions that align with my training, knowledge, and experience. When a situation exceeds my competency, I will seek guidance rather than proceed unsafely.
3. Keep It In The Pipes
I understand that containment of ammonia is critical. I will actively work to prevent releases through proper operation, maintenance, and vigilance, and I will immediately act when a potential loss of containment is identified.
4. Follow Established Procedures
I will adhere to all established operating procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements, including PSM and RMP elements where applicable. I will not take shortcuts that compromise safety or compliance.
5. Speak Up and Take Action
If I observe unsafe conditions, behaviors, or system issues, I will take appropriate action, including stopping work if necessary and notifying appropriate personnel.
6. Maintain Professional Integrity
I will not falsify records, training documentation, logs, or certifications. I understand that integrity is foundational to safety and trust in this industry.
7. Support and Develop Others
I will contribute to the growth and safety of others by sharing knowledge, mentoring, and promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
8. Respect the Responsibility of Certification
I understand that holding an ARTS certification represents proven competency and trust. I will conduct myself in a manner that reflects positively on the certification, my employer, and the industry.
9. Commit to Continuous Improvement
I will actively pursue ongoing education, training, and skill development to maintain and improve my ability to safely and effectively perform my role.
10. Accept Accountability
I accept responsibility for my actions and decisions. I understand that failure to uphold these standards may result in suspension or revocation of ARTS certification.
11. Uphold the Industry
I will conduct myself in a manner that upholds and advances the integrity, reputation, and professionalism of the industrial refrigeration industry.
12. Use Recognized Standards and Best Practices
I will utilize applicable industry standards, codes, and generally accepted engineering and operational practices when making decisions related to refrigeration systems.
13. Honest Representation of Credentials
I will not misrepresent my certification, qualifications, experience, or level of competency at any time.
14. Ethical Conduct
I will act in an honest, fair, and ethical manner in all professional activities and will avoid conflicts of interest that could compromise safety, judgment, or integrity.
15. Instructional Responsibility (If Applicable)
If acting as an instructor, trainer, or mentor, I will provide accurate, current, and technically sound information and will not instruct beyond my level of expertise.
16. Cooperation with Reviews and Investigations
I will fully cooperate with ARTS in any certification review, audit, or investigation related to my professional conduct or competency.
17. Certification Enforcement
I understand that violations of this Code of Professional Conduct, unsafe actions, falsification of records, misrepresentation, or failure to maintain competency may result in suspension or revocation of my ARTS certification.
