A Lesson in Ammonia Eye Safety
The Tucker Twins: A Lesson in Ammonia Eye Safety @ the 2026 NH3 SCERT Expo – SAFETY – COMPLIANCE – ENGINEERING – REFRIGERATION – TRAINING
Thank you R-717 SAFETY for being the nations authority in NH3 safety and sharing this story to the world.
Liquid ammonia in the eyes is a true emergency. Ammonia reacts rapidly with the moisture in the eyes and can cause severe chemical burns, permanent eye damage, and even blindness. When an exposure happens, there is no time to waste. Immediate flushing with large amounts of clean water is critical. Hold the eyelids open and continuously flush for at least 15 minutes while seeking medical attention. This is why proper PPE, respirators, safety glasses, and accessible eyewash stations are so important when working around ammonia refrigeration systems.
Respect the pressure. Respect the chemical. Protect your eyes.
